Garvalín size guide

At Garvalín we like to measure up

We know that choosing your little one's shoe size can be tricky, so we want to help. And if you don't get it right first time, no worries: our exchanges are free. Easy as that!

Sometimes we're not even sure of our own size, so imagine our child's. That's why we recommend reading this guide: so you can order knowing you've got it right.

Do the table measurements work for every model?

Bear in mind that the measurements are a guide. Depending on the model, the size may vary slightly, so some references might not match the table exactly.

Canvas shoes: their fit tends to be a little roomier. Buy your little one's usual size, check the fit and, if it's too big, make an exchange.

Beach sandals: some may run a little large. Before buying, take a look at the product page: that's where we'll let you know if it's best to go a size down from usual.

Should you leave 1 cm extra when choosing the size?

No. Our sizes already include enough margin for the foot to sit correctly inside the shoe. For example: if your little one's foot measures 10.8 cm, the recommended size is 18; if it measures 12 cm, size 20; and so on, just as shown in the table.

In search of the perfect size

  • Neither too tight nor too big. If the shoe is too small, the child won't be able to stretch their toes properly and may suffer poor foot development or pain across the instep. If it's too big, the foot will slide around inside and cause rubbing.
  • The magic hour. Try the shoes on in the late afternoon, when feet are more swollen: it's the best time to see which size is right.
  • The sock, your ally. Try the footwear on with a sock similar to the one they'll wear day to day.

How often should you check or change the size?

Children grow very fast, and so do their feet. That's why it's worth checking footwear following this table:

Child's age (years) Recommended shoe change / check frequency
0 - 1.5 every 2 months
1.5 - 2.5 every 3 months
2.5 - 4 every 4 months
4 - 6 every 6 months
7 - 9 every 3 - 4 months
10 - 20 highly variable, every 4 - 6 months
